The 1920's was a decade of rebellion and liberation for most women. These "flappers" wore shorter skirts, shorter hair, and more risque makeup.
Women in the early parts of the 1920's liked to use cream or ivory colored face powder to make their skin seem lighter. As the decade wore on, though, a more natural face tone came into fashion. Raspberry, rose, and orange were the colors that were in fashion for blush, or rouge.
Lipstick colors were also becoming darker. Shades of red, including brownish red, plum, and raspberry, were becoming more fashionable. Most women applied these shades in a "Cupid's Bow". This look was accomplished by emphasizing the "v" on the upper lip, plumping your lower lip by extending it down with lipstick or a lip pencil, and de-emphasiz
ing the width of lips. The idea was to make lips look like they were puckered, and ready to be kissed. The most famous lips that wore the Cupid's Bow were on the face of silent film star, and "it" girl of the 1920's, Clara Bow.Black was the color of choice in the 1920's when it came to making a woman's eyes stand out. Many women used black eyeliner pencil to line their whole eye. Darker shades of gray, turquoise, and green were the fashionable hues in eyeshadow. Black mascara was also used.
Eyebrows were generally kept very thin and tended to slope downward. As a matter of fact, many women in that era just completely shaved off their brows and lined them in
with a black or brown eyeliner. Nails were also seen polished with different shades of red, but only the center nails had any color. The tips were left bare.Shop New MAC Collections:
